Deepinder Bids Farewell

Deepinder Bids Farewell To The CEO Chair

Yes, you read that right. Deepinder Goyal has resigned as Group CEO and Managing Director of Eternal Ltd. which is the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, that became effective on February 1, 2026.

It feels a bit surreal to even write it. After nearly two decades of steering the company he co-founded in 2008, from menus and maps to IPO and international scale, the visionary behind India’s food delivery revolution is passing the operational baton.

Why Now?

So what’s behind this big move? That’s the question everyone’s asking. In a letter to shareholders, Goyal explained that while he remains deeply passionate about the company’s future, his interests have gravitated toward new, high-risk ventures. Ventures that, he believes, aren’t a perfect fit for a publicly listed company with strict expectations and governance frameworks.

He mentioned that ideas involving bold experimentation and radical exploration are better pursued outside the current corporate structure, a hint that Goyal might soon don a new hat as an investor, technologist or founder once again.

The New CEO

So who’s stepping into those enormous shoes? It’s Albinder Singh Dhindsa, the co-founder and CEO of Blinkit, Eternal’s quick commerce powerhouse.

Albinder isn’t a random outsider. He’s a long-time colleague, fellow entrepreneur, and architect of Blinkit’s rise in India’s ultra-competitive quick delivery market. Under his leadership, Blinkit grew from a fledgling startup to a key component of Eternal’s business engine, and now he’s tasked with running the entire group.

This move signals a continuity-driven transition, where operational control shifts to a leader who already deeply understands the company’s DNA. Eternal’s board and shareholders are expected to approve his appointment ahead of the February transition.

What Happens Next For Deepinder

Deepinder Goyal isn’t disappearing. He’ll stay on the board of directors as Vice Chairman, helping shape long-term strategy, leadership, culture, and governance, the big picture stuff. Even though he steps back as CEO, he would still handle the company’s stress. This gave comfort to the investors and employees.

In fact, market reactions have been bullish; Eternal’s stock jumped following the announcement, showing that Wall Street sees this as a mature and pragmatic leadership evolution.

A Personal Note

Zomato started during Covid and since then, it has taken great measures to provide comfort. It gave the joy of searching and surfing restaurants. It was a great cultural shift. Food delivery wasn’t just convenient anymore; it was personal, familiar, and instantaneous. This did not just grow Zomato but also made people feel at home with food. It was proof of how the founder made an impact.

Deepinder Goyal did more than just make a company. He became an inspiration for many, proving how Indian founders can make a big impact and make a unicorn even in times of stress. His podcast and investments have made many aspire to be a shark, and for countless founders watching him on stages, podcasts, or in headlines, his journey became proof that Indian tech can compete on the world stage. What Zomato grows with the new CEO is yet to be seen, but Deepinder definitely left a great mark.
